Chinese New Year Greetings

Kung Hei Fat Choi or Kiong Hee Huat Tsai! Which is which? I mean which greeting is correct? And what does this greeting means? Happy New Year?…for it Chinese New Year? Well, NO!

Kung Hei Fat Choi is what we used to hear and even read on news and banners. This term is indeed popular in our country even before. It has the same meaning with “Kiong Hee Huat Tsai” which literally means “Congratulations and wishing you prosperity.” According to abs-cbn news, majority of Chinese people living in the Philippines speaks Hokkien, and the greeting is also Hokkien so it would be nice to greet them by saying “Kiong Hee Huat Tsai!”

Kiong Hee Huat Tsai to my Chinese friends!

Greet your friends…

Happy New Year! (English)

Sin Ni khòai lok (Hokkien)

Xin Nien Kwai Le! (Mandarin)
